First, I sketch
out the painting. Masking out areas allows me to work without worrying about
reserving areas. |
Winsor & Newton removable masking fluid.

I dash aureolin
around the painting, leaving plenty of white space.
I paint the sky very subtlely, barely defining
clouds.
I let this dry completely. |

I darken
the sky slightly.
I darken the trees and some of the foreground
vines.

I
paint the vines in the distance.
I continue adding
to the foreground vines, letting my brush dance around the paper.
I let this dry completely.

After
it's dry, I remove the masking.
I add some bright
yellows and quinacridone reds to contrast with the bright greens.
I darken the shadows
under the vines. |

add finishing details, darkening the backgroung to increase the sense

pull out some color with a soft rag to give more distance.
I darken under the
vines and blur some harsh whites.
